Paul Stanley ist ohne Frage einer der weltweit populärsten (Rock-) Sänger und Frontmänner – und in seiner Rolle als extrovertiertes Starchild hat er seit fast 50 Jahren ohne Wenn und Aber Rockgeschichte geschrieben. Wie die meisten Leser dieser Rezension wissen dürften ist Stanley auch abseits von Kiss ein künstlerisch umtriebiger Mensch mit vielen Talenten und Interessen... was ihn, in Kombination mit seiner nicht leichten Lebensgeschichte, zu einer schlichtweg interessanten Persönlichkeit macht. Stanleys Erstlingswerk „Face The Music“ habe ich auch sehr gerne gelesen.Mit BACKSTAGE PASS legt Stanley eine Art „autobiographischen Lebensratgeber“ vor. Stanley schildert also, welche Mentalität es seiner Meinung nach braucht, um im Berufsleben und Beziehungsleben erfolgreich zu sein, gibt Tipps für Glück und Gesundheit - natürlich alles garniert mit vielen autobiographischen Anekdoten. Vom ganzen Konzept her gleicht dieses Buch also insoweit Werken wie beispielsweise „Rock Your Life“ von Rudolf Schenker.Nach der Lektüre muss ich sagen, dass ich BACKSTAGE PASS etwas zwiespältig empfunden habe. Klar ist, dass Paul Stanley (bzw. sein Ko-Autor) kurzweilig schreiben und plastisch erzählen kann. BACKSTAGE PASS ist ein ziemlich kurzes Buch und liest sich durchaus unterhaltsam – ist aber leider mitunter arg oberflächlich. Ohne Frage enthält das Buch lesenswerte Passagen und interessante Gedankengänge, aber oftmals liest sich BACKSTAGE PASS auch wie eine Sammlung von Plattitüden und Binsenweisheiten.Hinzu kommt: wenn man schon viele Interviews o.ä. von Stanley gelesen hat wird man sich bei vielen Passagen ohnehin denken können, was als nächstes kommt.Für Kiss Fans enthält BACKSTAGE PASS auch nichts wirklich Neues – ein paar kurzweilige Anekdoten, das war es dann auch. Die in diesem Buch veröffentlichen, vier bis fünf „noch nie gesehenen Fotos“ sind höchstens für wirkliche Komplettisten relevant. Interessant ist allenfalls, dass Stanley in diesem Buch seinen Kompagnon Gene Simmons deutlich sympathischer darstellt, als er es in „Face The Music“ tat – und auch der in Stanleys Erstlingswerk mitunter ziemlich niedergemachte Ace Frehley kommt unterm Strich positiver weg.Alles in allem: „Face The Music“ hat mich deutlich mehr begeistert. BACKSTAGE PASS ist ohne Frage kein schlechtes Buch, kommt aber an Stanleys Erstling nicht heran und hinterlässt einen kurzweiligen, aber etwas oberflächlichen Nachgeschmack.Von mir gibt es drei Sterne – nicht mehr und nicht weniger.
